Irene Imfeld: Last Days at Alameda

In 2016, at the the former Alameda Naval Air Station, a small group of photographers gained access to large aircraft maintenance buildings as they were prepared for demolition. Ghostly spaces … odd, specialized rooms now empty of all activity … seemingly taking a last breath before their collapse.

Irene Imfeld is a photo–artist based in Oakland, California. Imfeld was raised in a small town in Ohio and attended local schools where she began her interest in photography with basic darkroom classes. She moved to the Bay Area and worked as a freelance book designer for many years. She continued study in the photographic arts by attending numerous photo workshops and reviews. Past active memberships include Bay Area Photographers Collective, 2009–13; SFMOMA Foto Forum, 2008–15; Berkeley Bridge Artists (exchange w/Japanese artists), 2005–15. Irene was co–owner and curatorial director of PHOTO Fine Art Photography, a regional gallery in Oakland, 2010–15. Irene was on the PhotoAlliance Board of Directors 2015–18.
